Blythswood CareChristian care for body and soul The congregation of Falkirk Old and St Modan’s  Church supports the work of Blythswood Care by taking part in the Shoe Box Appeal and by donating to the lorry which calls at Falkirk and Grangemouth once a month.

The Shoe Box Appeal is promoted and organised in the church by the Youth Station. The young people check all the boxes as they come in and pack them ready for collection. In 2oo8, 81 boxes were collected from the church, along with donations of £138 towards the transport costs. Blythswood distributed 132,000 filled shoeboxes in 2008 to Eastern Europe, India and Sri Lanka. In the 15 years since the Shoe Box Appeal started, over a million shoeboxes have been distributed. The millionth shoebox was handed out in 2008 to a young girl in Bulgaria. Maria’s family only have an income of £50 a month to support her mum and dad and three brothers and sisters.

Many members also donate clothes, toys, foodstuffs, household goods and bric  a brac to the lorry which calls at Union Road Car Park Grangemouth from 2.15pm to 3pm and at Camelon Parish ChurchFrom 3.30pm to 4pm on the following dates – 18th March, 22nd April, 20th May, 17th June, 22nd July, 19th August, 23rd September, 21st October, 18th November and 23rd December.

Last year Blythswood was nominated as one of the charities to receive a donation from Falkirk Old & St Modan’s Church Snack Lunch funds. The profits from the Snack Lunches are shared amongst  charitable causes as well as going into church funds. 

Blythswood Care combines the Christian message with practical help for those in need at home and abroad, regardless of their political or religious beliefs or ethnic origins.  Scottish Charity No SC021848
