build_man_002What is it?

Who’s in it?

What do they do?

The simple answer is that it is a group of men and women led by a Team Leader, Bob Holland, who try to ensure that the church buildings in the Town Centre and at Hallglen are kept in good shape and fit for the various uses they are put to day by day throughout the year.

The team members are Bill Brown, Tom Finlay, Gordon Graham, Tom Haig, James Harley, Ros Mitchell, Christine Tait, and ex officio, Robert Allan. Regular meetings are held where items requiring attention are discussed and team members are allocated to deal with them.

Apart from regular maintenance such as replacing light bulbs, painting, repairing broken windows and fixtures, removing graffiti etc., the team discuss the buildings and how they can be made more user-friendly, whether they comply with current Health & Safety regulations, how to make the best use of the spaces within the building and carrying out regular inspections of the church, halls and manse as required by Presbytery.

At the moment the team is planning the refurbishment of the St. Modan’s Hall toilets and upgrading the kitchen ventilation and wall finishes to comply with Environmental Heath needs. A cupboard is being considered for the Lounge, external paintwork will be done to doors and screens at the Town Centre building and the doors and windows at the manse. It is hoped to improve the lighting in the St. Modan’s Hall, carpet the Resource Room, carry out electrical testing work and do some joiner work within the vestibule area of the Town Centre building. At Hallglen, the cross will be painted and the Council approached with a view to tidying up the approach to the building from the car park area.

So, the next time you hear an appeal for volunteers for a Work party to do things around the place, step forward and give your Buildings Management Team a helping hand to keep your church in good heart.
