We have 46 children on our Registers (Hallglen and Old Parish) aged from 3 up to Primary 7. Our babies and children up to age 3 can be looked after by our Creche in the Church Lounge during the service - contact Jean on tel.628415. And once an S-kid reaches High School age, they “graduate” to Youth Station and for more details of their group meetings tel. Moira 623735. We have 5 S-kids Leaders – Anne, Carolynn, Margaret, Jane and Marianne, who prepare the session’s lessons and work in rotation covering the Hallglen and Old Parish Services along with 19 Rota Helpers – these are willing volunteers whom we couldn’t work without – we need 2 extra pairs of hands to help out and we get a nice surprise to see who is coming along each week, as they swap rota duties with one another. Contact Anne 611826 We are continuing to follow the DVD series “Friends and Heroes” supplemented by extra craft, music and games. On 7th March we are all “buzzing” along to The Buzz, soft play centre at Bankside, S-Kids Birthday Register is on-going and everyone on our Registers and “Cradle Roll Graduates” from the age of 3 receives a card from their friends at S-Kids, Falkirk Old and St Modans Parish Church. In October 2009 we had a visit and photo presentation from Susan, a local primary school teacher who had spent her summer holidays volunteering in Malawi – both children and adults were engrossed in her tales from Africa and she gave a very real insight into everyday life there from a child’s point of view and compared our lifestyle here in Scotland to their’s over in Africa – it was very moving and thought-provoking. S-kids donated footballs from our funds to our church’s Backpack Project following an interesting DVD presentation shown in church the previous Sunday. We held a very successful Christmas Party for 55 children (S-Kids, Boys Brigade and Girls Brigade). Mary, Myrna and Ena were our valuable helpers on the food side and it was all hands to the pump when we got into the Hallglen Centre to set up for the party. We had DJ George, Games, Craft and Party Food and Santa even took time from his busy schedule to hand out parcels to everyone and we all enjoyed a good sing-song. We were just recovering from a hectic run-up to Christmas and rehearsing Jane’s X-Factor Nativity, when she told us that she was already working on next year’s script! This year Jane even composed a new Christmas Song and wrote all the lyrics too. She always says it is a “team effort” and it certainly was – lots of thanks to the talented people on technical support, costume and scenery. In January this year, S-Kids were delighted to offer help to the newly formed Tots n Tweenies Group, headed by Fiona and Liz. Babies and toddlers share our craft supplies and musical instruments when they meet in St Modans Hall on Mondays. On Valentine’s Day we were surrounded by hearts and love – we even went home with some love heart sweetiesJ On 20th March S-Kids Leaders are taking a stall at the Spring Fayre and there will be fun and activities for children from 10.00 am until 2.00 pm and we will need older S-Kids children to help us too. A supervised play area will run throughout to allow new faces to come forward with some new ideas to compliment the traditional coffee day format – watch out for the Duck Pond!! Future fundraising events are also being planned – so watch this space for news of a themed Disco, Fashion Show etc… On 14th March, we plan to do something “crafty” for Mother’s Day. On April 4th we are holding Easter Activities during the Easter Communion Service. In May the Father’s won’t be left out, as on 13th June, we will recognise Father’s Day too. Our end of session S-Kids BBQ/Snack Lunch will be happening on 20th June.
