Gordon Graham is the Church Officer. Here's his description of his duties.
I carry out Church Officer duties mostly at the week-ends, though sometimes I am asked to assist with an event in the evening through the week. When the last Church Officer stepped down from the post, there was no one available at the time willing to take on the role. Though a rota system was suggested to cover the week-end duties, I was more than happy to cover at the week-end. At present the work is voluntary, though this may change in the future once the restoration work has been completed and a full time Church Officer may be required. There are other church members at present who are only to willing to cover for me on any occasion I am unavailable, though if anyone else was willing to help in covering, they would be most welcome.
The main duties are listed below:
Saturday mornings - Deal with any hall lets that have been booked for the the St. Modan’s hall, most are for coffee mornings, though on the run up to Christmas they tend to be full day events.
- Depending on the weather, I make sure that the heating is on and check that all the hall facilities are in working condition.
- The hall lets all have different requirements but I usually open up the hall divider and put out tables for the stalls.
- During winter months, apart from dealing with the hall lets, the heating is set for the Sunday service, plus also set the timer for charging the batteries that are used on the sound system on Sunday morning.
